The laws of science are the same everywhere, and so is its relevance!

THE LAWS OF SCIENCE ARE THE SAME EVERYWHERE, AND SO IS ITS RELEVANCE!

Given the universality of science and its universal contribution to the human condition, both by way of re-modeling our socio-politico-economic fabric and its impact on our conception of reality at large, a science society’s relevance to the Maldives and its right to exist cannot be overrated!

It was the above perception nourished by an innate wonder and awe towards the majesty and power of science that prompted us, in the first place, to the idea of a science society in the Maldives. Viewed in this light, even the mere notion of a science society was both liberating and exciting!

Through the various activities mentioned under activities above and the eventual establishment of a scientific zeitgeist, Maldives Science Society seeks to foster awareness and promote participation in research-based activities that has direct bearings and implications on the development of the Maldives. This includes conducting research into and building models for alternative energy schemes such as solar energy, wind energy, wave energy and of course many other ocean-based energy-harnessing schemes. Desalination schemes based on solar energy are also one promising area of focus. Environmental research and marine research are also two major areas in which Maldives Science Society can foster awareness and incite participation. In fact, the list is virtually inexhaustible and is limited only by one’s imagination!

Indulgence in scientific discourse is also a mentally stimulating and rewarding occupation and therefore worth pursuing for its own sake and for which Maldives Science Society provides ample opportunities via its social and alternative discussion forums. In addition to the exchange of scientific ideas, such forums pave the way for honing in our critical thinking skills that impact positively on the whole gamut of our everyday decision making.

Incidentally, social discussion forums are also opportunities for social interaction and mental release, providing for wholesome physical and mental constitutions. Viewed in this light, Maldives Science Society may even be said to be fulfilling a social function as well!
